Last year, the state paid around EUR30 million for electricity generated from small hydropower plants, of which the largest portion again went to state electric utility company Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) and companies linked with Nikola Petrovic, a very close friend of President Aleksandar Vucic, the Center for Investigative Journalism of Serbia (CINS) reported on March 14.

According to CINS, in 2022, ten small hydropower plants linked with Petrovic sold EUR2.9 million worth of electricity to the state.

“Nearly half of the amount was generated by small hydro Rekovici on the Lim River, near Priboj in southwestern Serbia. Out of all small hydropower plants linked with Petrovic, the second highest amount of nearly EUR423,000 was generated by plant Zupanj on the Josanica River,” according to the report by CINS.

CINS also wrote that small hydropower plants linked with Petrovic had raked in around EUR23 million over a period of ten years.
