Aleksandar Vulin: A Trusted Populist

Commenting on the statement by German Ambassador to Serbia Thomas Schieb that the Srebrenica killings were genocide, Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin has said it is not appropriate for the German ambassador to instruct Serbs what to think or do, particularly not to lecture them about genocide, Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti has reported.

“With the history of two world wars, it is not appropriate for the German ambassador to instruct Serbs what to do or think, particularly not to lecture us about genocide,” Vulin has told the daily. He stressed that “the Serb nation has lived through the horrors of genocide and has not committed one, which much greater nations cannot say for themselves.”

Ambassador Schieb has said that Germany and other EU member countries believed that the 1995 Srebrenica killings were genocide, adding that they are expecting Serbia to take the same position.
