Haradinaj: Without talk of border change, agreement would have been reached
Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj resigned on July 19 after being summoned for questioning as a suspect in war crimes before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (KSC), located in the Hague Special Court.
Haradinaj said that he was not accused, but called as a suspect before the war crimes court.
"Having irrevocably resigned, I return my mandate to the people and you are the first to be informed about my decision,”
Haradinaj told a news conference in Pristina after a Kosovo government’s session.
He said that President Hashim Thaci should start consultations with parliamentary parties and schedule snap elections.
“Both, I and my party will run in the next elections, but I cannot lead the country under these circumstances as it would only make Kosovo’s position more difficult,” Haradinaj said.
KSC was formally set up in 2016 to try war crimes allegedly committed by the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), particularly against ethnic Serbs, Romas and Kosovo Albanian political opponents during and after the 1998-99 war. Haradinaj was the KLA wartime commander.
