Serbia has the highest level of cooperation with NATO as a state that is not a member of the alliance, but we can always improve cooperation and there is room for that, MP and member of the parliamentary European Integration Committee Vesna Markovic said on Nov. 8.

Markovic, who led Serbia's multipartisan parliamentary delegation on a visit to Brussels, said that this visit to NATO was very important, "primarily because we got the opportunity to become acquainted with the way the Alliance works and to learn much more from NATO officials about some future plans which are extremely important to us."

"This cooperation is important to us primarily because of cooperation with KFOR, because of protection of the Serb population in Kosovo and Metohija, because of their freedom of movement, because of protection of our religious buildings. I also expect KFOR's greater engagement in the coming period where securing the Serb population's freedom of movement is concerned," she said.

Markovic recalled that the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) was adopted in 2015, meaning that Serbia has the highest level of cooperation despite not being a NATO member state.

The Serbian parliamentary delegation's tour of the NATO headquarters in Brussels was carried out from Nov. 6-8. It was organized and backed by NATO's Public Diplomacy Division, as part of efforts to better present and explain the partnership between NATO and Serbia.

During the visit, the Serbian MPs met with a number of NATO senior officials, as well as with the Serbian ambassador to NATO, and toured the European Parliament.
