A journalist and program director of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina, Dinko Gruhonjic, told TV N1 on Nov. 19 that “normalization of violence, tabloids with no scruples and total propaganda had been present in Serbia over the past seven years, while morals had been pushed aside.

Gruhonjic said that linking a TV N1 reporter’s question with the health condition of President Aleksandar Vucic represented “putting a target on someone’s back and the symptom of the illness of the society.”

Speaking about the process he named “normalization of violence,” Gruhonjic explained: “When you target individuals as traitors, foreign mercenaries…then, regardless of how horrible it may sound, it is absolutely ‘normal’ that those individuals ‘deserve’ to get some sort of beating and for public not to react to such beating ... as the public has been prepared to look at violence as something completely normal in this society of conflicts.”
