After the rector of the University in Belgrade, Ivanka Popovic, confirmed that Finance Minister Sinisa Mali had plagiarized his doctorate and that the next steps would lead to the annulment of his doctoral dissertation, many opposition parties and movements called for the resignation of the minister, as well as of the entire government.

The New Party is publicly demanding that Mali immediately resigns his job as minister and that the entire Serbian government, as well as the Serbian president, do the same.

The president of the Together for Serbia, Nebojsa Zelenovic, urged the speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Maja Gojkovic, to schedule an extraordinary session within 24 hours, so that Finance Minister Sinisa Mali could be dismissed.

The president of the Alliance for Serbia, Janko Veselinovic, stated that "the only option is for Mali and the entire government to resign."

The president of the Movement of Free Citizens, Sergej Trifunovic, assessed that the decision of the Ethics Committee of the Belgrade University was "the strongest and most important" institutional response to the "moral downfall that has engulfed all segments of the society."
