Vice-president of the People’s Party and MP Miroslav Aleksic issued a written statement on Nov. 27 in which he claims that those arrested earlier the same day in a raid on the Jovanjica organic farm where the police had found large quantities of marihuana, are only “contractors” employed by the top government and Serbian Progressive Party circles.

“This is the largest marihuana growing project in Europe. Such large-scale production in an open space is impossible to carry out without the government’s support, to which testify all the incentives the Jovanjica farm received from the state,” Aleksic said.

Aleksic believes that the answer to who the organizer from “the top government circles” is will be found in the phonebook of the Jovanjica’s owner Predrag Koluvija, and asked who the person Koluvija called following his arrest was.

“The government has given us only some pieces of the story, and most of them are incomplete or untrue, as they wish to close this case so that the real organizers are not discovered,” he added.

Aleksic also said that General Police Director Vladimir Rebic has been reduced to a mere spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior.

“Responding to my claims about the Jovanjica, Rebic said that the marihuana crops were not guarded by police officers. I have reliable information that the plants were guarded by armed men wearing badges. I hereby call on Rebic to give us all the details,” Aleksic wrote.

In his statement, Aleksic further remarked that Rebic is either a bad mathematician or he has been deliberately misleading the public, as he had said that 65,581 undried marihuana stems weigh 3,954 kilograms, which means that one stem weighs 60 grams.

“Rebic’s talking nonsense – marihuana stems can reach up to two meters in height, so he probably forgot to add a zero to the total weight he gave,” Aleksic added.

Aleksic also announced that he will talk about new findings in the Jovanjica case and expects to receive answers from Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic and the state leadership during a press conference in the National Assembly scheduled for Nov. 28.
