The Senate of the University in Belgrade annulled the doctorate of Finance Minister Sinisa Mali on Dec.12.

The Senate annulled the degree by a unanimous vote at the session. The decision is final and Sinisa Mali may initiate proceedings against the decision in court.

A professor of the Faculty of Biology, Biljana Stojkovic, said that the Senate's decision to annul Sinisa Mali's doctorate "marks the end of the stain that has existed for five and a half years," assessing that a doctorate defended in court would be a pitiful one.

She added that this was "not a political decision. It is political insomuch that the Serbian Progressive Party proclaims it political and because it concerns the finance minister," Stojkovic stated.
