People’s Party deputy leader Miroslav Aleksic has said that Serbia is in a deep political crisis, which cannot be overcome unless the authorities created conditions for holding fair elections, which should be valid for nine months with firm guarantees for their implementation.

“It is not about 45 days envisaged for elections campaign. Even if perfect conditions are established for campaigning and verified by the OSCE, we will not run in such elections as the regime has been campaigning throughout all 365 days for seven years now. Does someone really think that something we have been watching for seven years can be changed in 45 days,” Aleksic has told TV N1.

He stressed the existing atmosphere created by the regime was leading to spreading aggression and instability, which was in no one’s interest, particularly not in the interest of the authorities.

“We are in a country under occupation and in such an atmosphere, there can be no elections, but only a brutal act of stealing from citizens as they have no alternative options to make a choice,” Aleksic noted.

He added that the parties which were not members of the ruling coalition and would run in the elections, would practically support the regime and such parties would do it for their personal and party interests, while the regime would have the right to say that the opposition had run in the elections.

“If all opposition parties boycotted the elections, then we would unmask the dictatorship we are exposed to. The opposition parties which are planning to run in the elections have been more attacking us, who advocate a boycott, than the regime, and they more support Vucic (Serbian president) than the Socialist Party of Serbia. The pro-regime tabloids have been more attacking the Socialists than the opposition parties planning to run in the elections,” Aleksic specified.

“The elections planned for the spring of 2020 will make a surgically precise dividing line between those who do not care about privileges and are ready to make sacrifices, and those who support the regime by running in the elections. Together with Serbia’s citizens, we will struggle and finally win freedom, as we are not boycotting only the elections, but the entire hideous system set up by the Progressives,” Aleksic said.
