Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said in Belgrade on Feb. 10 that Serbia wanted a clear answer from the European Union whether enlargement to the West Balkans would happen or not.

"It's important to us to know if the EU will go ahead with enlargement or not. That is why our request to Italy is for a clear answer to whether the Union wants Serbia or not. No hard feelings, just so we know how things stand," Dacic told a news conference after meeting with his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio.

Dacic said this was significant as the region was rife with bilateral issues, and that a European future for the West Balkans was important to their resolution.

Di Maio said Italy considered EU enlargement to the West Balkans to be of crucial importance, and that Rome was advocating this view with all EU members.

I believe that at a time when the EU is dealing with Brexit, it is good to expand its horizons. We'll do everything we can to keep the EU firmly dedicated to enlargement, Di Maio said.
