European Commision

The European Commission stated on May 13 that it was ready to closely link the region of the Western Balkans to the carrying out of the Joint European Roadmap towards the gradual opening of borders and restarting of tourism after the limitations implemented because of the corona virus pandemic.

According to the EC's recommendations on the freedom of movement and abolishing of controls at the EU's internal borders, it would also be necessary to monitor the situation in countries that are neighboring the Union.

"In line with the statement about Support to the Western Balkans in solving problems with COVID-19 and the post-pandemic recovery, the EC is ready to closely link the region to the Roadmap," the Commission stated on its website.

These guidelines and recommendations are not mandatory for all EU member countries, but could assist in the coordinated lifting of limitations on travelling and the gradual activation of tourism after several months of complete stand-still caused by the corona virus pandemic.
