Military analyst Aleksandar Radic on Sept. 1 said that at the moment, there was no procedure according to which Montenegro could exit NATO, noting that politically it would be very meaningless, but stressed that a withdrawal of the recognition of Kosovo’s independence would be “an absolutely different topic.”

In a statement to BETA, Radic said that politically, everything was possible, adding he could even imagine a scenario where the parties which were given the opportunity to form a new cabinet in Montenegro, would wish Montenegro to leave NATO, but there was no such procedure according to which a member could leave over the first 20 years of membership, which was why such a move could provoke a conflict with the entire Western civilization.

“Unlike the issue of NATO, which is a much broader context as even Serbia wishes to maintain friendly ties with the Alliance all up to the point where it would be required to join NATO, the issue of Kosovo and the so far withdrawals of recognition of Kosovo’s independence have shown that there exists a very elegant way to do it,” Radic specified. He added that Milo Djukanovic had conducted a wrong policy that Montenegro could be built exclusively on anti-Serb moves in foreign and regional policies.
