Political analyst Ljubomir Filipovic said on Jan. 3 that the Montenegrin Land Registry Agency was obligated to register all Church property and transfer its ownership to the state if said Church, like the Serbian Orthodox Church, was not registered in Montenegro.

"A year and a few days ago, the old government adopted the controversial law which sparked protests that led to the first political changes in the country. The law contains a provision that states that the national land register agency has exactly one year to register and transfer Church property to the state. The deadline is Jan. 8," Filipovic tweeted according to the autonomija.info website.

After this statement, Filipovic received numerous death threats through social media from Greater Serbian nationalists. He informed the public of the threats.

Filipovic feels that the Montenegrin parliament should have organized a session to adopt amendments to the law as soon as possible, but "its maladroitness caused it to make a few mistakes. This gave Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic the perfect excuse to use his constitutional powers to hand the law back to the parliament for review," Filipovic explained.
