Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic died, aged 65, on Feb. 28 and will be buried at the city's Mirogoj cemetery on March 3.

Croatia's leaders have expressed their condolences after the death of the mayor, along with many local politicians. Bandic, who ran the Croatian capital for over 20 years, died suddenly of cardiac arrest.

The longtime mayor's tenure was riddled with affairs, investigations and court proceedings over alleged bribery, which saw his detention at one point. The way that he ran the city sparked a wave of protests, too, although he managed to remain in office.

Bandic was on trial, together with associates and business partners from city firms, in the Agram affair, which involved corruption to the tune of some three million euros. He denied all of the accusations. Bandic had been dealing with serious health issues for some time.
