Croatian President Zoran Milanovic declared support on June 30 for North Macedonia's European path, assessing that this country and Albania should start the EU accession negotiations as soon as possible.

"North Macedonia and Albania should start the negotiations as soon as possible," Milanovic said at the news conference after the meeting with Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski. He stressed that he was pleased, because of North Macedonia, that Slovenia was taking over the EU presidency.

Pendarovski, who is paying a two-day visit to Croatia, said that his country had "no alternative to full EU membership." He thanked Croatia for its support.

Pendarovski also had a separate meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, who pointed out that Croatia was supporting the prompt starting of the EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia, stated the Croatian government.
