The Serbian ambassador in Skopje, Nevena Jovanovic, conveyed at a July 7 meeting with the prime minister of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, Belgrade's unequivocal support for the country's future in European Union (EU) and a launch of accession negotiations, the government in Skopje reported.

During the meeting emphasis was on the importance of EU enlargement and the need to reaffirm trust in the Union, which all the states of the region aspired to. The ambassador and the prime minister agreed that involving bilateral issues in the negotiating process could be a dangerous precedent with serious ramifications.

They also described as excellent bilateral ties between the two states, seeing them as a solid base for a stronger economic partnership.

Zaev and Jovanovic also said that infrastructural connections between Serbia and North Macedonia opened room for economic growth and a better investment setting for the benefit of both nations.
