In a battle against raging wildfires, Serbia has engaged several types of police helicopters flying from a forest fire-fighting mission in Mokra Gora, Serbia, to new wildfire locations in North Macedonia and Greece.

The Balkan Security Network reported on Aug. 9 that in the fire-fighting missions across the region the Serbian police used H-145M, AB 212 and Gazelle helicopters. The Serbian police department does not own fire-fighting aircraft, but the three types it used proved efficient when equipped with helicopter buckets.

The police helicopters were first used in Mokra Gora on Aug. 2, after which they were sent to Skopje's airport Petrovec, and from there to various heliports in the field, which they used for repeated take-offs from Aug. 3 to Aug. 7 to help contain forest fires in the village Kokono, near Kumanovo, and further to the east, near Pehcevo and Berovo.

Serbia was very quick to send the helicopter aid to North Macedonia, but the magnitude of Greek fires reached unprecedented proportions in the meantime, and the Serbian police has joined a friendly international fleet coming to Athens' rescue.
