European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi and Montenegrin Economy Minister Jakov Milatovic will take part in an EU-Montenegro intergovernmental conference in Brussels in the evening of Dec. 13, according to announcements from Brussels and Podgorica.

Montenegro has opened all chapters in the accession negotiations with the EU and its progress in reforms will be on the agenda of the conference. Podgorica will be informed of Brussels' position that the further pace of negotiations will depend on its progress in chapters 23 and 24 and that no other chapters will be closed until the interim benchmarks in this area have been met.

The Slovenian EU Council Presidency earlier stated that during the conference the entire accession process will be reviewed.

“As envisaged by the revised methodology, the intergovernmental conference with Montenegro will provide a forum for political dialogue about the reform process. What will also be taken into account will be the entire accession process and [the conference] will also set the plans for next year,” the Slovenian EU Council Presidency stated.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic was also supposed to travel to Brussels, but had canceled his participation in the conference because of the confidence vote in his government that is to be held in the Montenegrin Parliament.
