Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania will sign an agreement to combine efforts to curb tax evasion in these three states, Radio Free Europe (RFE) reported on June 3.

This is part of a Memorandum of Understanding that the RFE obtained, which the three states are expected to sign in Ohrid, at the next meeting of the Open Balkans Initiative, scheduled to take place this week. An agreement to facilitate the recognition of university diplomas will also be signed in North Macedonia, along with memoranda of cooperation in the areas of culture and tourism.

The document to curb tax evasion says that the signatories are aware of “the increased importance” of cooperation in combating tax evasion. In the memorandum on the recognition of diplomas, the Open Balkans Initiative suggests a fast-tracked process of recognizing university diplomas in Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia.

Ohrid will host a two-day Open Balkans summit on June 7. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, the Albanian and North Macedonian prime ministers, Edi Rama and Dmitar Kovacevski, will attend the conference, and Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic will be travelling to Ohrid as a guest participant.
