France will provide its expertise in the field of cyber security to government institutions in Montenegro, at the request of the NATO member state which has been the target of a major attack by hackers on government institutions, the French authorities announced on Aug. 27.
"The French government has replied positively to the Montenegrin authorities' request and places at their disposal the National Cybersecurity Agency of France for conducting a support and aid mission to detect, analyze and repair cyber security," Jean-Noel Barrot, the government representative in charge of digital transition and telecommunications, said.
Barrot added that the mission was in line with a project for creating a regional center for developing cyber capacities, headed by France and Slovenia, which would be based in Montenegro.
Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic said on Aug. 26 that for the time being everything was in the sphere of speculation as to who was behind the cyber attack on state institutions in Montenegro, while Defense Minister Rasko Konjevic and the National Security Agency stated that everything indicated that Russian services were responsible for the attack.
