The Interreligious Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina is organizing a joint prayer of the four traditional religions in the country, in Sarajevo on Feb. 4, to commemorate all the victims of the past war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The prayers will be led by the head of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein Kavazovic, Archbishop of Bosnia Cardinal Vinko Puljic, Orthodox priest Nemanja Djureinovic and Igor Bencion Kozemjakin, a hazzan of the Jewish Municipality of Sarajevo.

After the joint prayer, Jakob Finci, president of the Jewish Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina and chairman of the Interreligious Council Assembly, and Bonnie Glick, deputy administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will sign a new agreement between the Council and USAID.

Under the agreement, USAID is obliged to support the Interreligious Council's activities aimed at monitoring and reacting to incitement, hate speech and attacks on religious buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The main goal of the joint project is to minimize the possibility of hate escalating after any negative event, as well as to strengthen the dialogue between the religions as grounds for promoting empathy and preventing violence.
