Metropolitan Amfilohije (Beta)

Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral said in Belgrade on Feb. 10 that Montenegro was an outlier in Europe in its attempt to change one people's identity and very being.

Having received, on behalf of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro and its believers, a plaque from the Vecernje Novosti daily in Belgrade for the collective endeavor to defend Serbian holy places, Amfilohije said that the Montenegrin Law on freedom of religion stemmed from "the ideological brother-hatred and lawlessness" from the time of World War II.

According to him, processions across Montenegro in protest against the "Godless law rekindling the spirit of brother-murder" show that the people of the country have risen again.

"For me that is something I neither expected nor knew -- that there is so much fire of faith and brotherly love in the people. The people recently revealed their true dignity, their true face," the bishop added.
