A moratorium on the sale of farmland to foreigners Croatia will be extended by three more years i.e. until June 30, 2023.

A seven-year transitional period ends on July 1, 2020, while Croatia has handed in a request to the European Commission (EC) to extend the ban, Vecernji List has reported.

Based on its accession agreement in 2011, Croatia arranged the aforementioned moratorium on selling state and privately-owned farmland to foreigners and legal entities.

The seven-year period ends on July 1, 2020. Croatia has requested that the EC prolong the restrictions, explaining that Croatian farmers still had a lower purchasing power relative to farmers in the rest of the EU, that there was still an imbalance between their purchasing power and the price of farmland, as well as that the restoration of property to landowners had not yet been completely legislated and that there were still many unsolved cases.
