A donation agreement, worth EUR8.3 million for the Belgrade metro project, was signed in Belgrade on May 12 by French Ambassador to Serbia Jean-Louis Falconi and the Serbian construction and EU integration ministers, Zorana Mihajlovic and Jadranka Joksimovic respectively.

Ambassador Falconi said that the Belgrade metro project was in the center of bilateral economic relations, adding that the signing of the agreement “is an important and concrete phase in this serious and multi-year undertaking.”

“France is committed to backing Serbia on this project. I believe that French expertise in the execution of complex projects in the transportation sector ensures a successful realization of this important infrastructure project,” the ambassador said.

Mihajlovic described May 12 as an important date for the realization of this important infrastructure undertaking, which had been valued at between EUR4.5 and 5.5 billion, according to a release from her ministry.

Joksimovic said that the development cooperation with France showed that Paris had recognized Serbia as a serious EU candidate country and that it was important for Serbia to have France as a strategic partner on several infrastructure projects.
