Workers at the Fiat factory in Kragujevac who opt to leave the plant will receive severance payments of EUR790 per year of service, and an income of around RSD17,000 per month with paid benefits.

BETA has learned that a negotiating team that met with the president of Serbia on June 25 negotiated six months of monthly payments with benefits for workers with from five to 15 years of service who opt for severance, while workers with over 15 years of services will receive monthly payments for nine months while unemployed.

The 230 Zastava workers who will continue to work at Fiat will receive a severance of EUR500 per year of service at Zastava, and EUR790 per year of service at Fiat. BETA learned that 90 percent of workers were happy with the size of the severance and that it was the option that most workers would pick.

BETA's source believes that around 200 workers will continue to work in other factories in the wider Kragujevac area, adding that a small proportion of workers would decide to go to work in Slovakia.
