The Slovenian government has applied for financial support through the SURE job protection instrument, estimated to total EUR1.1bn. SURE is one of the three “safety nets” worth EUR540bn in total, and is designed to preserve jobs in companies and member states of the EU via favorable loans, according to Slovenian media reports.

In its application for financing from that source, Slovenia stated that it would use the funds to subsidize waiting for a job and shorter working hours, finance basic income and release those who are self-employed in micro companies from paying contributions, and for similar cases.

SURE is to launch after all the EU member states have secured collateral for the common loan, and is to be available until the end of 2022, should the crisis situation continue or repeat for longer.
