Karavanke Tunnel

The Turkish Cengiz company won a tender for building a long pipe through the Karavanke motorway tunnel the most frequented border crossing between Slovenia and Austria.

In addition to the Cengez company which offered the lowest price of EUR99.6m offers were made by a consortium made up of Kolektor, CGP, Riko and the Turkish Yapi Merkezi company and a consortium of Implenia Austria, Implenia Switzerland and CGP Novo Mesto.

According to Total Slovenia News, Cengiz lowered the price by EUR1m to EUR98.6m. A contract will be signed by the end of December. The procedure for choosing the best bidder lasted longer than expected since Slovenian contractors tried to push the Turkish company out, which according to them made an unrealistically low offer.
