Imposing Rector Djokic as Opposition Leader

Last week’s police raid of the University of Belgrade Rectorate building and Rector Vladan Djokic’s speech at the protest rally held on that occasion have de facto promoted him as the leader of the student movement. Almost overnight, the opposition-leaning public started talking about Djokic as the student ticket’s presidential candidate in upcoming elections. The authorities led by Aleksandar Vucic were prepared for such development, which they themselves had greatly contributed to, because they obviously believe Djokic suits them as a presidential candidate, or as the potential leader of the student ticket in the general election.
