Five people died from consequences of the corona virus in Serbia in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 173, it was announced on April 29.

The deputy director of the Institute Batut, Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, said at the news conference that 227 new infections were registered in the past 24 hours, so there is a total of 8,724 infected. 1,292 people have been cured.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon stated on April 29 that consultations would be held about the measures that would be in effect for the May 1st holidays. However, he underscored that the epidemiologists "firmly adhered" to their well-known stance, despite the current "encouraging" results in the fight against the corona virus.

"We have a firm stance, within the epidemiological part of the task force, that very strict measures should be kept in place this time, too," Kon said at the news conference. He added that "the ban of contacts is still in effect" and that "the elderly must be protected, regardless of the situation."
