The members of a team of three Chinese doctors who have been helping their Serbian colleagues during the coronavirus epidemic in Serbia since May 4 were handed military memorial medals on June 1 in Belgrade.

The medals are the highest accolades awarded by the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces. Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Dr. Cheng Shoujen thanked the Ministry and said that the medals symbolized "the strong as steel friendship between China and Serbia."

"In Serbia the medical team of Chinese experts traversed more than 20,000 kilometers, traveled far and wide in Serbia, visited COVID hospitals and numerous institutions. We always had a good experience, we passed on our own experience, especially from Wuhan, we made proposals and exchanged opinions in tune with the current epidemiological situation in Serbia," she said.

At the ceremony, Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin underscored that the Chinese experts had come to Serbia "when they were needed the most, at the most difficult time."

Chinese Ambassador Chen Bo said that the Chinese medical team had become "a symbol of the strong as steel friendship between the two countries," adding that the three members of the first group had been working in Serbia for 72 days now, while three more had been working for 28 days.
