Zoran Zivkovic, heading election ticket “Let the Masks Fall Off,” in the elections scheduled for Sunday, June 21, has said that “the election conditions have never been worse, but one must fight, instead of going on a summer holiday.”

Presenting his ticket’s platform, Zivkovic said that media outlets “which publish falsehoods” should face harsh penalties. “Media outlets can publish anything, whatever they desire. But, if they publish a piece of information which is later proved to be a falsehood in court, penalties should be so high that no media outlet would have a chance to publish more falsehoods as the next one would push them into bankruptcy,” Zivkovic, the New Party leader, has said in an election interview, published by BETA on June 16.

Explaining why it is necessary to “battle” in the elections, even under unfair conditions, Zivkovic stressed that a boycott had never brought any good to anyone.

He added that combating corruption required the formation of commissions or committees in all local assemblies and in the Serbian parliament, which would be monitoring budget spending and where opposition representatives would make up the majority.

Asked to comment on the Kosovo issue, Zivkovic said that “a frozen conflict” was not a good solution for Serbia. “A first step toward reaching a solution to the issue is to have no one in Kosovo fear for their safety or life. Standards, which would prevent any casualty in that territory, should be defined and implemented,” Zivkovic said.
