The U.S.beleives that the unveiling of a proposed war crimes indictment against Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli and other persons, which was brought by the office of the independent Specialist Prosecution, is a step toward justice and reconciliation in the Western Balkans, the State Department has said.

The Voice of America reported on June 25 that the U.S. had called on the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and the independent Special Prosecutor's office to abide by their mandate, as the case makes its way through the justice system and added that 20 years had gone into the process.

This step was essential to improving the rule of law and getting justice for victims in Kosovo, and the country has moved away from this terrible period and joined the Euroatlantic community, the State Department said in the statement.
