Turmoil in Novi Pazar: Another Islamic Community Looming on the Horizon?
The Bosniac National Council warned on June 29 at "a catastrophic crisis in Novi Pazar's healthcare system" that broke out over an increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases, urging the authorities to immediately send medical staff and equipment to the city hospital.
"We are all witnessing the new situation, created after the numbers of infected people, critical cases and deaths had surged. Doctors and other medical professionals in the Novi Pazar hospital are fighting heroically, but they are too few to look after so many patients. The medical facilities in the city urgently want protective gear, as well as essential medical equipment for the care of patients suffering from severe Covid-19 symptoms," the Council said in a release.
The Bosniac authority said that an appeal for help had been sent to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan as well, and that "a large number of Turkish medical professionals" were prepared to travel to Sandzak and help curb the spread of the virus, but that the transfer "requires a consent and an invitation from Serbia's medical institutions and authorities, and they are not ready yet."
The Public Health Institute in Novi Pazar reported on June 29 that the total number of Covid-19 cases had increased to 466.
