Social activist and Novi Sad Faculty of Law student Milan Vujic was physically assaulted by an unidentified man late on Aug. 9 in Novi Sad. Before hitting Vujic, the man told him he was attacking him because of what he had posted on Twitter.

Vujic told BETA after the attack, on Aug. 10, that he had sustained fractures of several bones in his face and added that he would undergo surgery at the Clinical Center of Vojvodina, where he had been hospitalized, on Aug. 11.

"I have fractures of several bones in my face, my temple has been injured, too. I'm supposed to undergo surgery on Aug. 11," said Vujic.

Milan Vujic, 22, is a civic social activist who has published articles in Belgrade's daily Danas and on Novi Sad's Autonomija website. He presents civic, liberal and anti-nationalist views, and spoke at the anti-government protests in the spring of 2019.

Numerous opposition parties and non-governmental organizations have reacted to the assault.
