Kosovo President Hashim Thaci is set to decorate U.S. President Donald Trump with the order of freedom, the highest decoration in Kosovo, for his role in the recently reached agreement between Belgrade and Pristina on normalizing economic relations.
In a letter viewed by Reuters on Sept. 17, Thaci informed Trump of the honor, while expressing "profound gratitude" to Trump for his personal contribution to the agreement and inviting him to visit Kosovo.
Robert O'Brien, national security advisor to the U.S. president, and Trump's special envoy to the Belgrade-Pristina talks Richard Grenell are to receive the President's Medal for their contributions.
Grenell tweeted the news, congratulating Trump on his medal.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Premier Avdullah Hoti pledged at the White House on Sept. 4 to normalize economic ties. Sitting next to Trump, they each signed their own copy of the document titled Economic Normalization. The versions of the document differ only in the last of the 16 points.
