A member of the Politbiro of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Yang Jiechi, said during an Oct. 12 visit to Belgrade that his country had attached great importance to "practical cooperation" with Serbia, encouraging Chinese companies to invest in Serbia.
"Practical cooperation between China and Serbia is mutually beneficial. The Zelezara Smederevo steel mill is one of the joint triumphs. China has attached great importance to practical cooperation with Serbia, encouraging local companies and enterprises to invest in your state," the Chinese high-ranking party official said at a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Jiechi added that China expected Serbia's new cabinet to "keep leading the people towards prosperity and development. The Politbiro member explained that a strategic partnership between the two states was established in 2016, when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Serbia, "opening a new chapter in the bilateral relationship as well."
