The EU has sent a new quantity of FFP2 masks and protective clothing for medical personnel in Montenegro and North Macedonia, the European Commission announced on Oct. 14.

Besides, Slovakia has offered North Macedonia FFP2, FFP3 and surgical masks, hygiene sets, blankets, tents and ventilators to North Macedonia, through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, the media in Brussels have reported.

"We are now sending more than 130,000 additional protective masks to Montenegro and North Macedonia," said the commissioner for crisis management, Janez Lenarcic. He thanked Germany for transporting the shipment and Slovakia for "generosity to our close neighbors in the Western Balkans."

The aid was sent from the warehouse of the RescEU system in Germany, formed in March, as part of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, with the aim of helping the countries tackle the shortage of medical equipment.
