Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be coming to Belgrade in October as it had been announced earlier, the Danas daily reported on Oct. 15.
Citing unofficial sources from diplomatic circles, the newspaper claims that Moscow has not disclosed the reasons why Putin had changed his mind and decided against coming to Serbia, but that “the Russians are definitely displeased with Serbia’s recent rapprochement with the U.S. in the foreign policy area.”
“[The matter] especially came to the fore during the recent signing of the economic normalization agreement between Belgrade and Pristina at the White House,” the article further reads.
Danas also recalled that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had announced Putin’s October visit to Belgrade back in June, after his meeting with the Russian president in Moscow. On the occasion, Vucic said the event would be “grand,” as it would also coincide with the official opening of the St. Sava’s Temple in Belgrade’s Vracar district.
