German Ambassador to Serbia Thomas Schieb has said that Germany and the EU are setting aside billions of euros for the developing of the COVID-19 vaccine and that Serbia, in that regard, can count on support and solidarity of the EU and its members.

In an op-ed published in the daily Kurir on Nov. 11, Schieb pointed out that the fight against the coronavirus, “is a common task of all the affected countries and regions,” adding that he was pleased because Germany had contributed to the fight against the epidemic in Serbia by donating five ventilators and protective equipment.

Schieb also tackled the epidemiological situation in Germany, describing it as serious and added that there is much concern that yet another comprehensive lockdown would greatly harm the German economy.

“As of a week ago, public life in Germany has been subject to significant restrictions, although schools, for example, are still open. We sincerely hope that the number of the newly-infected will soon go down,” Schieb added.
