Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that "November 11 is officially the worst day of the pandemic in Serbia, in terms of deaths and new infections alike."
Speaking at an annual award ceremony on the Armistice Day, attended only by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Serbia's leading epidemiologist, Dr Predrag Kon, the president said that the dismal figures notwithstanding, "Serbia is still among the best five European states, compared to the size of the population."
Explaining a decision to award decorations to medical professionals, including members of the government's Covid-19 Crisis Headquarters, Vucic said he was grateful to them for "believing in the healthcare sector and the state," and for being brave enough to say what they think.
The list of recipients includes Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.
