President Aleksandar Vucic has said that German Chancellor Angela Merkel has always been fair to Serbia, although she does not support Belgrade with regard to the Kosovo issue.
In the evening on Nov. 16, Vucic told TV Happy that for Merkel, the Kosovo issue “is a done deal, an independent state,” but added that Merkel “has always been fair to Serbia.”
“She has also been fair in relation to the Kosovo issue, she is not siding with us, but she was absolutely fair when we last talked in Davos (in January 2019). Then, she told me: ‘I do not know what to tell you at this moment, you should be looking for how to preserve peace and stability and how to push forward,” the Serbian president said.
Vucic further said that “there is no doubt” that Germany “was upset” with the scheduled meeting of him and then Kosovo president Hashim Thaci at the White House in early July, with which had been postponed over a war crimes indictment against Thaci.
He added that it was understandable as “there is a great antagonism” between Germany and U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration.
