Serbian Parliament Speaker and Socialist Party of Serbia leader Ivica Dacic has said that the Parliament will deal with the topic of intra-party dialogue on election conditions between the authorities and the opposition next year, with mediation of European Parliament representatives.

In the evening of Nov. 17, Dacic told the RTS public service that the format of the talks and the time of their beginning are yet to be determined, adding that some parties not represented in the legislative body would like to participate in the dialogue.

“We are not keeping away from this topic. And, not only are we not keeping away from it, we are ready for it,” Dacic pointed out.

He added that the dialogue between the government and the opposition in the Serbian Parliament was launched during the term of his predecessor, Maja Gojkovic, but that it is not up to him to be in charge of the talks, as they will be in the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Social Dialogue led by Gordana Comic, who, according to him, is the right person for this position.

“My role is not to be in charge of the dialogue. I was elected as parliament speaker. According to the Constitution, the Parliament is the highest representative body. I will not consider anything else that is outside the Parliament’s regular activities – whether some dialogue will be initiated [for instance] – as [contributing to] my success,” Dacic underlined.
