The EU had allocated another EUR13 million to support Serbia in migration management in 2021, the EU Info Center said in a release on Jan. 19.
According to the release, over nearly six years, when Serbia started seeing a rise in the number of migrants in its territory, the EU has donated a total of some EUR130 million, which have been used to assist state institutions engaged in migration management and also to support migrants.
“The ongoing EU support to migration management in Serbia, has proved to be a crucial and sustainable program also during the coronavirus pandemic, and during 2020, when the number of sheltered migrants would at times exceed 9,000,” it is said in the release. It added that according to assessment of Serbian Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Cucic, the number of migrants currently sheltered in Serbia was around 6,200.
