Eighteen people have died of COVID-19 in Serbia in the last 24 hours, while 1,318 new cases have appeared, the Serbian Ministry of Health said in a press release on Jan. 24.

Hospital care is being provided for 4,693 of COVID patients, 178 of whom require assisted ventilation.

Since the beginning of the epidemic of the coronavirus, 383,603 people in Serbia have been infected, and 3,886 have died.

On Jan. 24, Crisis Headquarters member Branislav Tiodorovic urged people to get vaccinated as soon as possible, using any vaccine available, as they were all efficient, including against a new coronavirus strain that has appeared in neighboring countries.

He told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation that the response to calls for vaccination had exceeded expectations and noted that at least one to two million citizens would have to be vaccinated before a herd immunity of sorts could be achieved.
