Members of the European Parliament' s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) urged Serbia on Feb. 24 to demonstrate clear commitment to European values, saying that respect for fundamental rights and the normalization of relations with Kosovo will also set the pace of Serbia's accession talks with the European Union (EU).
Rapporteur Vladimir Bilcik's report on Serbia, which the committee has adopted, underlined the importance of making Serbia's EU accession talks more dynamic, urging Serbia to show clear commitment to fulfilling its obligations in the process visibly and credibly.
In the AFET report on the European Commission's report on Serbia for the period between 2019 and 2020 Belgrade was requested to offer plausible results in judicial reforms, the freedom of expression and the fight against corruption and organized crime.
Fifty-seven MEPs voted in favor of the report, four were against it and nine abstained, as reported on Feb. 24. The committee had previously adopted aligned amendments to the report.
