The president of the European Commission, Ursula von den Leyen has informed the chairman of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Council of Ministers, Zoran Tegeltija, that in the second half of April the Western Balkans could expect the first batch of 650,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The Council said that this was a donation by the European Union and that the vaccines would be completely free of charge. The distribution of the entire consignment will be arranged with each state of the region separately.

The Council of Ministers also reported that Tegeltija spoke over the phone with the EC president on March 27, and that the two officials discussed the situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

The two officials agreed that stepping up the production of vaccines and ensuring fair global distribution, coupled with stronger solidarity, were key to stabilization and recovery, as well as to overcoming the problems caused by the pandemic, the Bosnian Council of Ministers said in a press release.
