Vucic, Handke (BETAPHOTO/EMIL VAS/EV)
On May 9 Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic 9 decorated Austrian writer and Nobel laureate Peter Handke with the Karadjordje Star of the first degree.
On May 7, the Austrian author received the Order of Republika Srpska in Banjaluka. He was decorated for "exceptional work and merit in the field of cultural and spiritual development and for his particular contribution to developing and solidifying overall relations with Republika Srpska."
Handke toured the town of Visegrad with filmmaker Emir Kusturica, where he was awarded the Ivo Andric Grand Prize. The award was presented for best book published in Serbia or Republika Srpska in 2020 for his book The Second Sword: A May Story.
