Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in Dimitrovgrad, on May 23, that the Bulgarian minority in Serbia should be "a bridge of friendship between Serbia and Bulgaria."

"I told President (of Bulgaria Rumen) Radev and the Bulgarians who live in Serbia that they can always count on not just our friendship but that the state of Serbia will welcome them with open arms, because we see no problems dividing us. On the contrary, we believe that members of the Bulgarian minority in Serbia should be a bridge of friendship between Serbia and Bulgaria," Vucic said after meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart.

The two presidents unveiled a monument to saints Cyril and Methodius in the town of Dimitrovgrad.

Radev called the monument a symbol of the historic ties and shared ambitions of Bulgaria and Serbia. "The monument will spiritually connect our nations -- the monument is for the holy brothers thanks to whom we share today the same spiritual space and same alphabet. That is symbolic, it is important, for it shows not just our historic closeness, but charts the shared path of our ambitions," Radev said, adding that he was confident trade would improve in 2021.
