The Steering Committee of the Serbian Progressive Party voted unanimously on May 29 to merge with the Serbian Patriotic Alliance, followed by a welcoming message from Aleksandar Vucic, president of Serbia and the Progressive Party.

"Welcome to your party," said Vucic, who sat with Serbian Patriotic Alliance leader Aleksandar Sapic at a table reserved for the party's leadership. Sapic was picked as vice chairman of the Serbian Progressive Party's steering commission at the same session.

Vucic said Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic had resigned as head of the Progressive Party's Belgrade chapter. Vucic announced that a Progressive Party assembly would be held from Oct. 21 to 23 to pick the party leadership until 2025.

A declaration was adopted at the session on the unification of the Patriotic Alliance and the Progressive Party, which states that its goal is preventing divisions in Serbian society and that preserving peace and political and social stability is the crucial condition for the country's progress.
