Belgrade Mayor: Unless Inoculation Continues, We Could Face More Dangerous Strain than Delta Variant

Belgrade Mayor Zoran Radojicic on July 13 said that unless vaccination process continued, a strain more dangerous than the Delta variant could appear in Serbia.

“If there is no herd immunity, the virus is more transmissible and there is a risk that a strain more dangerous than the Delta variant will appear in Serbia. I have no explanation for the low vaccine take-up rate among the young,” Radojicic told TV Pink.

Radojicic, also a professor at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine, stressed that it was necessary to create a new inoculation strategy.  

He added that the Delta strain had been hitting younger people harder than the elderly, noting that health implications of this variant “are still unclear.”
